Nowadays everyone has the power of video in the palm of their hands. The smartphone is capable of HD or slow-motion video, but there are a number of features the smartphone does not provide when it comes to professional videography. Those looking to get into the world of professional and quality video can choose from a number of options. From cinema to DSLR cameras; there is something for everyone. However, there are still aspects these cameras cannot provide, so in comes the GoPro action camera.
If you haven’t heard of this powerful toy, then you have been living under a rock. It’s so easy, as a videographer, to stick with a plan and follow through. Staying consistent can be very important, but sometimes you run into situations where the creative mind comes in handy and it’s okay to try something new. At KreativElement, our main cameras are usually on a tripod or shoulder mount because of their size and the shots they provide. The GoPro allows us to capture different angles and get into areas our bigger cameras can’t access due to size.
The GoPro is designed for agility unlike any camera out there. Oh yeah, and by the way it shoots HD video in 24fps, 30fps and 60fps. Have you ever seen those cool videos of a sunrise, a flower blooming or a busy freeway moving at a frenetic pace? Those are called time-lapses and it just so happens, the GoPro can shoot them with ease.
Need to shoot something under water? Want some beautiful footage high above the subject? You can capture all these aspects with a GoPro. When I do video, I try to keep the viewer engaged with multiple angles and points-of-view. The GoPro provides an array of tools in order to get those creative, interesting angles.
Doing a video about firefighters? Why not strap a GoPro on their helmet to see exactly what they see? How about a feature on puppies? You can mount the GoPro on their backs and get a fun and engaging angle of the dog’s point-of-view running through the field. You can use as many pan and wide shots as you want, and while those are extremely important, it never hurts to take your shoots outside the box, and go places no one else has gone.
The viewer will love the final project; trust me. Oh, and I almost forgot, their price range is $200-$500, and that is cheap in this camera world. So as they say, “I do what I can with what I have”, and if you have a GoPro you’ll do way more than you think.
Have you used a GoPro? Share your thoughts, reviews or footage with us! We’re excited to find unique ways to use this agile, fun tool more here at KreativElement.
